Meet Dallas horror author of Show Me Where It Hurts, Robert E. Stahl, on the road, coming to a location in Texas near you.

What’s REALLY going on here?

Before I became a writer, I bartended for about twelve years at a handful of bars in Dallas’ thriving gay district. Oh, the stories I could—and will—tell! The tour takes me back to some of the bars I loved the most and throws in some super-cool bookstores I’ve come across along the way.

I love crafting stories rooted in the grind of everyday life. But don’t take it from me—take it from Rich Lopez from Dallas Voice. “The themes that radiate across the book include abuse, addiction, masochism and, ultimately, redemption.” Lopez said in a recent article. “Those aspects paint his fragmented characters and stories where darkness may reign supreme as they confront their unsettling fears.” Lopez hit the coffin nail right on the head, perhaps even more than he could possibly ever know. Writing this book was a great way to work through some personal trauma, a topic which you can read more about here.

“There is something here for everyone,” says Richard Thomas, author of Incarnate and Spontaneous Human Combustion. “Zombies and cannibals, witches and ghosts, Bigfoot and Halloween… follow these stories into the shadows. Something awful awaits you there—monstrous, full of awe, and shimmering with hope.”

With echoes of Chuck Palahniuk, Grady Hendrix, and Clive Barker, my stories offer a fresh, queer voice to literary horror. Strap in and prepare to be haunted—these stories are vulnerable, vicious and often break all the rules.

I absolutely love interacting with readers, so I sincerely hope you can make it to one of the tour events. We can chat about writing, about the inspirations behind the book’s most sinister moments, or about the monsters you happen to know in your everyday life. Heck, I’m always looking for fodder for my next story.

Tag the bravest friend you know with this blog post—I’ll see you in the dark.

Keep it spooky,

Robert E. Stahl
